Brasília na Mala
Being from Brasília – a still very young city – it was always harder to find local production in, take fashion as an example, that would go beyond t-shirts and such — the year was 2015. But I knew it was there, somewhere in the city. So I made it my personal mission to transform my own consumption habits.
Over time, a new wave and generation of creators and creatives began to infuse the city with color and introduce new brands. This made me ask myself: OK, so think about what if I committed to advocating for local fashion and other products, and research and only buy local? This experiment expanded to include home decor and more. The name of my idea began as a simple hashtag on my personal social media profile: "Brasília na Mala," which translates to "Brasília in a Suitcase." This idea took root when I had an upcoming trip to Rio de Janeiro and decided to challenge myself to wear only locally sourced products throughout my journey.
Through collaborations with numerous local brands, I not only achieved my goal but also had an artist friend adorn my suitcase with a super dope graffiti art. What started as a personal hashtag soon grew into a website, with more categories displaying local businesses, articles on what was happening in Brasília, and artist profile pieces.
